S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon Enters 33rd Year
June 8, 2018 – Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation announced today that Walk with the Dragon, one of its major annual fundraising events, is returning to Lumbermen’s Arch at Stanley Park on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
More than 5,000 people are expected to join the community event, which aims to raise $406,000 for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs and services that receive no or partial government funding and that benefit seniors, women, youth and families.
Since its launch in 1986, the Walk has become one of the most anticipated community-based fundraising events in Metro Vancouver. The event will feature a special ceremony at which the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon will be “awakened” and lead participants on a seven-kilometre excursion around the Stanley Park Seawall. Participants may also choose to walk a three-kilometre route around Lost Lagoon.
This year, the Walk will feature a large Kids Zone sponsored by RBC, with a bouncy castle, balloon-twisting artists and game booths. In addition, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation will partner with CHMB AM1320 for the third year for a radiothon on Saturday, July 14, from 8 am to midnight. During the radiothon, listeners will hear heartwarming stories of people who have benefited from S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s services, information about S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s programs, and how donations make a difference in the community.
“I give my heartfelt gratitude to all of our donors and corporate sponsors for their support,” said Chris Chan, co-chair of the 2018 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon. “I encourage everyone to get involved and help us raise funds for the Walk. Every little bit helps and will enable S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to continue to serve people of all ages and backgrounds for the betterment of our community.”
Terry Liu, the other co-chair of the 2018 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon, was once a recipient of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s immigrant settlement services. “I’m grateful for the support that my family and I received from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. when we first arrived in Canada,” he said. “I hope that by giving back and supporting S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s fundraising efforts, I can help ensure others in the future can also benefit from its services like I did.”
Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, expressed her gratitude to the two co-chairs for their efforts. “I’d like to thank Chris and Terry for their hard work and commitment to making the Walk a success,” she said. “Their dedication is truly inspiring and the funds raised through the Walk will help to sustain our many crucial social services and programs.”
