S.U.C.C.E.S.S. hosts Vancouver Police Board community meeting

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. hosts Vancouver Police Board community meeting

June 14, 2018 – Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. hosted a Vancouver Police Board community meeting today at its head office in Vancouver. Mayor Gregor Robertson, in his role as chair of the Vancouver Police Board; Dr. Sherri Magee, vice-chair of the Vancouver Police Board; and Adam Palmer, Chief Constable, Vancouver Police Department (VPD); shared with attendees the roles that the Vancouver Police Board and VPD play in the community.
“Meetings like this are so important to help the Vancouver Police Board connect with the community, and to help ensure that policing remains responsive and relevant to our citizens,” said Mayor Robertson, chair of the Vancouver Police Board.
“We’re extremely proud to partner with the Vancouver Police Board to host its community meeting,” said Donnie Wing, chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “Partnerships like these strengthen S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s role as a bridge to important resources and information for newcomers and community members alike. We’re grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with the Vancouver Police Board so that more people can learn about the great work that’s done by the Vancouver Police Board and S.U.C.C.E.S.S.”
Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., added: “Like the Vancouver Police Board, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. serves people of all backgrounds, including some of the most vulnerable members of our society such as seniors, immigrants and women. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the Vancouver Police Board to better support the needs of everyone in the community.”
The meeting also featured presentations from the VPD Recruiting Unit, VPD Cadets, as well as from senior S.U.C.C.E.S.S. staff members who discussed immigration settlement trends, S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s services and a S.U.C.C.E.S.S. program that serves highly vulnerable newcomers and youth. The meeting concluded with an open discussion where attendees had the opportunity to pose questions to the presenters.
