FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. 50th Anniversary Walk with the Dragon raises $320,500 to fund community programs
Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. celebrated our 50th anniversary year with a crowd of more than several thousand participants at the Walk with the Dragon fundraiser in Stanley Park this weekend, raising more than $320,500 to continue our community programs.
Walk with the Dragon is S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation’s largest community-based fundraising event. It historically draws several thousand participants and is held in Stanley Park since 1986. Proceeds go directly to support essential S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs for families, youth, women, and seniors.
“As we celebrate a historic milestone this year – 50 years of serving our community – it is incredibly heartwarming to see so many members of our community show their support for our agency,” said S.U.C.C.E.S.S. CEO Queenie Choo. “Over the years, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has become like a family to many of our staff and the clients we serve, and I am always inspired to see how well we pull together for a cause.”
The Walk with the Dragon is led by the longest Dragon in North America – the 100-foot long S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon is carried by 40 martial artists who lead walkers and teams to participate in walk routes through the park. Following Opening Ceremonies, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon was woken from its year-long slumber in a symbolic dragon eye dotting ceremony.
Our dragon leads walkers on one of two variations of the walk to accommodate various age and activity levels: a seven-kilometre circuit around the Seawall and a three-kilometre circuit around Lost Lagoon. Our family-friendly event is designed to cater to all ages, from seniors to children, and this year, we launched our Youth Participation Kit to welcome teams from schools and youth organizations.
“We are incredibly grateful to all of the sponsors, donors, participants, staff and volunteers for joining us at Stanley Park and for their support.” said S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation Board Chair Jason Lam.
Following the walk, participants and the public joined the fun at our fair in the park at Lumberman’s Arch, enjoying live music, entertainment and activities, giveaways and prizes, carnival games, photo and community booths. Proceeds will go directly to support the wellness of our communities, particularly essential S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs for families, youth, women, and seniors.
Thank you to all of our donors, walkers, sponsors, volunteers, staff and community leaders who helped make the event a success!
