Celebrate Summer with 100-foot-long S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon

Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation’s signature event Walk with the Dragon will be held this Sunday, July 16, 2017. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. staff and walkers are gearing up for its 32nd anniversary at Lumbermen’s Arch, Stanley Park, Vancouver. The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon will again lead over 6,000 walkers to raise $400,000. All proceeds will go to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Caring for the Community Fund to maintain and enhance services that have no or insufficient government funding, especially programs for immigrants, refugees, youth, women, families and seniors.
First launched in 1986, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon has raised over $12 million for important social services and programs for Metro Vancouver communities.
“Endeavors such as the Walk will ensure those otherwise would be underserved to have access to important programs such as Youth Leadership Millennium Program, Multicultural Early Childhood Development Program (MECD), Chinese Help Lines and senior services provided by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society,” said Sing Lim Yeo, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.
In 2015-2016, MECD served close to 250 families with over 5,800 touch points provided in support of their efforts to integrate into the community. The Chinese Help Lines, available in Mandarin and Cantonese, handled over 7,000 calls involving 111 specialized volunteers who contributed around 5,400 hours. More than 360 individuals received S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s counselling service through 2,287 interviews. Around 200 youth were served with over 300 sessions delivered. The donation also helped fund exercise equipment, dental clinic and ceiling lifts at the seniors care facilities. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation has played a crucial role in bridging the gap by investing in value-added programs that are important to the community.
On Sunday, July 16, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon will lead a 7-km excursion around the Stanley Park seawall. There will be another 3-km walk along Lost Lagoon for those who would like to spend more time at the main stage. RBC Kids Zone will provide more fun activities such as sports training games, bouncy castle, face painting, airbrush tattoos, balloon twister, photo-shoot, crafts, henna tattoos and caricature drawing to bring more fun to the young families and their kids.
The festivities will kick off at 8:30am with the eye-dotting ceremony for the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon followed by multicultural performances featuring Japanese, Korean, Philippine, Chinese and Mexican until 12:30pm.
Complimentary shuttle bus services from Vancouver, Richmond and Tri-Cities to Stanley Park will be available for the public. For details, please visit: http://www.successfoundation.ca/walk2017.
“We are very delighted to see increasing support from newcomer community this year. In addition to those long-time sponsors, e.g. Official T-shirt Sponsor – Concord Pacific Group; VIP Reception Sponsor – Vancity; and Official Airline Sponsor – Air Canada, we also welcome new supporters such as 1029 Café, Foregrowth Club, Jonathan Lu, Terry Liu & Associates Ltd., Bohan Investment Group, CBGH, and PREC & Winstom Financial, and Liuyiushou Hotpot ” said Chris Chan and Steven Shen, Co-Chairs of Walk 2017. “With generous support from the community, we can build stronger communities where people of any age feel connected, supported, and empowered,” Chan and Shen added.
One day before the event on Saturday July 15, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation will host a fundraising radiothon again in partnership with CHMB AM1320. The Radiothon runs from 8:00 am to midnight. The audience will hear heartfelt stories and information about the services and programs that the public might not be aware. The public are encouraged to call: 604-263-1320 to donate to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.
Events like S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon would not be as successful as they are without the help of donors. To make a donation, please visit http://www.successfoundation.ca/walk2017/ or call at: 604-408-7228. Donation is welcome on the event day.
