The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos visits S.U.C.C.E.S.S. seniors care programs in Richmond

June 27, 2018 – Richmond, BC – The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, toured the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Jackson Lam Adult Day Centre and assisted living facility at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Austin Harris Residence in Richmond this afternoon. It marked the second day of the Minister’s visit to Vancouver.
During the tour, Minister Duclos met with seniors who were attending the adult day program and their family members, as well as residents of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Austin Harris Residence.
“I strongly believe that those who built our country deserve a worthy and secure retirement,” said Minister Duclos. “The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of organizations that work for the well-being of our seniors, such as S.U.C.C.E.S.S. It was a pleasure to meet today with seniors attending the program and the residents of the Austin Harris Residence.”
The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Jackson Lam Adult Day Centre offers 25 adult day service spaces to seniors in Richmond, Monday to Friday. Located on the same site, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Austin Harris Residence has 50 assisted living units for seniors. At this facility, residents receive personal care and hospitality services, such as two daily meals, weekly housekeeping, social and recreational opportunities, and assistance with medications.
“We’re honoured to have Minister Duclos visit our seniors care facilities and hear about the culturally appropriate care that we’re so proud to provide to seniors in the community,” said Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “Culturally sensitive care recognizes the cultural needs and preferences of seniors and has been proven to greatly promote their overall health and well-being. As such, ongoing policy and funding support from the government for culturally appropriate care for seniors should be a part of the National Seniors Strategy.”
