S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to Host Community Roundtables on Immigration and Racial Discrimination
 in Surrey and Richmond

Surrey, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will be hosting a series of community roundtables called All Our Neighbours, as a continuation of the Forum, Safeguarding Our Communities, Upholding Our Values, which took place in February. The roundtables aim to engage local communities in open and genuine conversations on the idea of neighbourliness, with a focus on recent anti-immigrant sentiments and racially discriminatory incidents in Canada. All Our Neighbours will be held in at least 6 different cities throughout the Lower Mainland, and each event will accommodate approximately 60-80 people. The first two  roundtable took place in Coquitlam late August. The next two sessions will be held in Surrey and Richmond. Details to the event are listed below:

Venue: Kid’s Place Room, Richmond Public Library – Brighouse (Main) Branch, 100-7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC V6Y 1R8
All Our Neighbours is part of an on-going response to anti-immigrant sentiment and incidences that occurred in 2016. With the current resurgence of white supremacist rallies and counter protests, the timing of All Our Neighbours is especially relevant. All Our Neighbours will provide a space where local residents can share their anxieties and fears, and better understand the reality of newcomers.
All Our Neighbours also responses to the recent Vancity study which found that 82 per cent of visible minorities in the Lower Mainland say they have experienced prejudice or some form of discrimination, while 70 per cent of all respondents, regardless of their cultural origin, have experienced or witnessed some form of discrimination or racism. The Vancouver Foundation has also found loneliness to be a top issue in the city of Vancouver. All Our Neighbours brings together these issues and explores this intersection of neighbourliness and diversity across the Lower Mainland.
