S.U.C.C.E.S.S. mourns the loss of our founder Maggie Ip
Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maggie Ip, a beloved member of our organization. Maggie was a dedicated and passionate leader who made significant contributions to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the communities we serve.
Maggie Ip served as a prominent figure within S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for many years, leaving a lasting impact on the organization and the people it supports. At the 50th anniversary celebration last year, Maggie said that when the organization began, many immigrants were “lost” and had to rely on friends in Canada to survive. “Then we realized that they have so much potential to help build this country.”
“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Maggie Ip. Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication to our mission have been an inspiration to us all,” said Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “We will honor her memory by continuing the important work she was so passionate about.”
The entire S.U.C.C.E.S.S. family extends its deepest condolences to Maggie Ip’s family and friends during this difficult time. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched and the communities she served.
About Maggie Ip
Maggie Ip was born in Shanghai but moved to Canada to earn her Master’s Degree in education from the University of Ottawa. In the late 1960s, she moved to Vancouver with her family and husband, Kelly Ip. As a full-time mother, Maggie Ip volunteered on the board of the YWCA, working mainly with new immigrants in the Strathcona and Chinatown area who were highly educated, such as lawyers, doctors, and professors. With a large number of immigrants coming from Hong Kong and not enough resources to aid everyone, she realized the urgent need in Vancouver to provide assistance to these individuals to help them adjust. Thus, Maggie Ip decided to found S.U.C.C.E.S.S., which today is the largest settlement service organization in Canada.
