S.U.C.C.E.S.S. celebrates 45th anniversary on Parliament Hill

Ottawa, ON – In recognition of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s 45th anniversary, Senator Mobina Jaffer, MP Jenny Kwan, Senator Yonah Martin, Minister Harjit Sajjan, Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, MP Alice Wong and Senator Yuen Pau Woo co-hosted a delegation from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. at an event on Parliament Hill this afternoon.
Named S.U.C.C.E.S.S. on the Hill, the lunch reception welcomed close to 100 guests, including other members of parliament, senators, members of the diplomatic corps, and approximately 35 board members and other guests from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation. At the reception, the co-hosts praised S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for its work in serving newcomers and the community at large.
“As a proud British Columbian and a daughter of immigrants, it is my honour to co-host S.U.C.C.E.S.S. on the Hill in our nation’s capital to congratulate and celebrate the remarkable 45th anniversary of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.,” said Senator Yonah Martin. “For more than four decades, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has demonstrated excellence in immigration settlement and community services across British Columbia and abroad. I have also visited the first overseas office in Seoul, Korea, where S.U.C.C.E.S.S. provides a bridge for hopeful immigrants to prepare for new life in Canada. On behalf of all of the co-hosts, thank you S.U.C.C.E.S.S.!”
Maggie Ip, founder and patron of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.; Donnie Wing, chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.; and Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, all expressed their gratitude to the co-hosts and guests for their support.
“We are tremendously honoured to be hosted on Parliament Hill in celebration of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s 45th anniversary,” said Queenie Choo. “Since 1973 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has grown from an organization with under 10 staff to one that now has more than 20 service locations across BC and three overseas offices. Last year, thanks to support from the government and the community, we served more than 61,000 clients who came to us for everything from pre-arrival, arrival and settlement services, to language training, employment support, affordable housing and seniors care. The recognition we received this afternoon affirms our commitment to serving the community and energizes us in continuing to assist newcomers as they settle and make Canada their home.”
At the reception, Senator Yuen Pau Woo also presented Maggie Ip and husband Kelly Ip with the Senate 150th Anniversary Medals, in recognition of their decades of contributions to the community.
