Federal Candidates Discussed Timely and Important Topics at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and CIJA Co-Sponsored Public Town Hall Event

Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) co-hosted a town hall event with federal candidates today from 2-4 pm in S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Choi Hall.

Four candidates from the top polling Canadian political parties answered pre-selected questions, as well as queries submitted by the public, regarding the following topics: access to culturally sensitive services, affordability, community security, employment, the economy, immigration, and inclusion.
The town hall was attended by hundreds of interested members of the public, and was moderated by Ian Bailey of the Globe and Mail.

Candidate attendees:

• Conservative Party of Canada: Zach Segal
• Green Party of Canada: Lawrence Taylor
• Liberal Party of Canada: Harjit Sajjan
• New Democratic Party: Don Davies

“We wanted to find topics which were of relevance and concern for both sets of constituents,” said Nico Slobinsky, Director of CIJA Pacific Region. “The town hall allowed our respective communities to hear from potential leaders and learn about their positions. We were delighted to once again partner with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to bring this important forum into the community.”

Candidates were asked to address questions submitted by the public ahead of the town hall relating to the topics pre-selected by the event co-organizers. The session was delivered in English, and simultaneous interpretation into Cantonese and Mandarin was provided.

“Promoting civic participation is one of the top mandates of our organization,” said Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “We believe that it’s important to actively engage with our diverse community of stakeholders and provide as many opportunities as possible for the public to hear from candidates who are running for such important offices. It was truly an honor to co-host the town hall with longtime partner CIJA, especially as we share many of the same priorities for our communities.”
