Vancouver, B.C. – The Honorable Niki Sharma, Attorney General and Deputy Premier of British Columbia celebrated S.U.C.C.E.S.S. community donors and supporters at a special event in Vancouver on Wednesday.
The Attorney General attended the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation Donor Recognition Ceremony to deliver remarks about the importance of community philanthropy and congratulate S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’ dedicated donors, sponsors and partners whose fundraising and support over many years has ensured our success as a non-profit social services agency.
“Thank you for the service that you do for our province. It really is quite inspiring,” Attorney General Sharma said. “We always are choosing, every generation, what kind of society we want. We choose by how we show up in our community, the choices we make. I know at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. the pillar of this organization is showing up for each other in really profound and beautiful ways to help us recommit to the society we want.”
“I met a board member and heard about her parents and grandparents receiving service from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and now her contributing on the board,” Sharma added, “and if that isn’t the story of Canada, then I don’t know what is. And it starts with everybody in this room and all of the donors who have showed up to support.”
Vancouver-Strathcona MLA Joan Philip was also in attendance to open the ceremony, alongside S.U.C.C.E.S.S. CEO Queenie Choo, Foundation Board Chair Brandon Hui. Also in attendance were Society board members Dr. Janet Kow, Ai-Le Leroux and Jonathan Do, and Foundation Immediate Past Chair Jason Lam plus board members Irene Hsu, Kevin Ma and Bill Bai.
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. honoured longtime donors, sponsors and supporters, including Kelly Ip, Sing Yeo, Concord Pacific, TD Bank, Vancity, ScotiaBank, BMO, RBC, CIBC and Vancouver Diamond Lions Club by presenting plaques to participants during the ceremony, held in Choi Hall at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S Social Services Centre in Chinatown.
“Our agency has only been able to nurture newcomers’ dreams over five decades because of because of the generosity of the philanthropists we are recognizing today,” said CEO Queenie Choo. “I am deeply grateful for the community’s ongoing investment in our cause to ensure seniors get the care they need to enjoy life, to ensure newcomers get the supports they need to settle well and to ensure everyone who needs affordable housing can find a safe place to call home.
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation is a registered Canadian charity that raises funds to help maintain and enhance S.U.C.C.E.S.S. services which receive no funding or partial funding from the government, such as our programs for youth, women, families and seniors.
“Funding that our registered charitable arm raises goes to support our underfunded programs, such as our long-term seniors’ care,” said Foundation Board Chair Brandon Hui. “We believe that seniors deserve better, and we’re determined to help build a lasting safety net for them.”
This community support has helped S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to evolve into an award-winning social service agency, one of the largest in Canada.
