Asian Songstress Frances Yip Ready to Headline S.U.C.C.E.S.S’s Charity Concert for the 6th Time
Richmond, BC – Frances Yip, one of Asia’ s leading pop singers, has returned to Vancouver and set to woo her fans at the two charity concerts hosted by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation this coming Friday August 18 and Saturday August 19. The Foundation hosted a press conference today to introduce the event details.
“Frances has been a passionate supporter of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation for more than two decades. We are thrilled to have her back to perform for us for the sixth time,” said Walter Soo, Brandon Hui and Jeffrey Chan, Co-Chairs of 2017 Frances Yip Charity Concert. “We hope to raise $150,000 to enable S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to continue to provide the important social services and programs that lack of sufficient government funding, particularly for those pertaining to youth, women, families and seniors”.
At the press conference, Frances reminisced about her previous visits to Vancouver and expressed her enthusiasm in reuniting with her fans and friends. “Vancouver is one of my favourite cities. It is like a second home to me. I enjoy performing here and love sharing my experiences with the audience as well,” said Frances. “I hope my performance will be instrumental in raising the needed funds for those services,” she added.
Started singing since the 1960s, Frances gained international fame in the early 1980s with her signature tune, The Shanghai Beach (also known as The Bund), the theme song of the popular Chinese TV drama of the same title. She has released over 80 albums to her name in various languages. Frances is fluent in Chinese and English.
At the two upcoming shows, Francis will present a 2-hour set of her greatest hits, including her signature tune, The Shanghai Beach.
Frances has a successful career in music industry which brings her the adoration of loyal fans all over the world. The show at River Rock Theatre on August 19 has been sold out.

Frances Yip Profile
After more 40 years in an industry where longevity is usually measured in years rather than decades, Frances Yip is still seeking new goals and setting new standards.
Frances’ career has evolved from the swinging sixties throughout the disco revolution and on to “adult contemporary”.
Her linguistic skills, with unique interpretations of lyrics in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as several other Asian languages, has led to a fan base across a wide range of cultures and countries.
Frances has performed in over 30 countries across five continents, in concerts and on television. She has recorded over 80 albums, participated in three feature films and appeared in stage musicals. To celebrate her 45th anniversary in music industry Frances held concerts in New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, North America, Hong Kong in 2014 and Australia in 2015.
She has worked with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, the Macau Chinese Orchestra, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Tamasat University Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok as well as large orchestras in Kuala Lumpur.
Francis also became the first Hong Kong artiste to perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at a fundraising concert held at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, Canada in October 2004 for the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.
Frances achieved worldwide recognition when she was selected by the Hong Kong Government to be a co-presenter at the British Farewell Ceremony to mark the transfer of sovereignty in Hong Kong to China. The event on June 30th 1997 was watched by a television audience estimated at 120 million, in more than 80 countries around the globe.
Her signature tune “Shanghai Beach”, the theme song from a television series of the same name made in 1980 has been possibly the best-known Cantonese song for over three decades among the Chinese in communities all over the world.
