40th Annual Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala Raises $650K

Vancouver, BC – More than 800 guests attended the 40th annual Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala on March 10 in support of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., one of the largest social service agencies in BC. The event raised an amazing $650,000 through dinner ticket sales, live and silent auctions, raffle ticket sales, sponsorships and donations, making it one of the most successful events hosted by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation. Funds raised will support essential S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs and services, such as the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Simon K. Y. Lee Seniors Care Home, Chinese Help Lines, Youth Leadership Millennium Program, Korean Counselling Program and the Multicultural Early Childhood Development Program.
“The gala was extremely popular and all dinner tickets sold out one month prior to the event,” said Walter Soo, Jeffrey Chan and Timothy Hsia, Co-Chairs of the 2018 Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala. “We are grateful for this overwhelming support and are thrilled knowing that proceeds will make a difference for so many newcomers, seniors, youth and women in the community who depend on S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s services.”
Some of the dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia; Hon. Harjit Sajjan, Minister of National Defense; Hon. John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia; Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of Richmond; and Tong Xiaoling, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver.
The evening began with a spectacular performance that took guests through the rich history of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Throughout the evening, guests enthusiastically bid on more than 150 silent auction items, including an extensive selection of wine, electronics, furniture, dining certificates and other exquisite items donated by local businesses.
The feature performance by Fred Cheng was the event’s highlight. A Canadian-born singer and actor now based in Hong Kong, Fred serenaded guests with a variety of English and Chinese songs.
Since 1997, Air Canada has been the Official Airline Sponsor of the Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala and has flown in excess of 100 artists, including Fred Cheng, from different cities to Vancouver to participate over the years.
“We are thankful for the support and contributions from our generous sponsors and donors who make the gala a resounding success year after year,” said Brandon Hui, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.
First launched in 1978, the gala has raised more than $11 million for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. programs and services that receive no or partial funding from the government.
The Bridge to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Gala is one of three major annual fundraising events hosted by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation. The other events are the Walk with the Dragon and a golf tournament.
