2019 Walk with the Dragon at Concord Pacific Place Raises $328,000

July 21, 2019 – Vancouver, BC – Today, the 34th annual Walk with the Dragon (Walk) event attracted well over 4,000 participants who raised $328,000 in support of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. social services and programs.  For the first time in its history, the Walk was held in the heart of the city – at Concord Pacific Place.

Each year, the Walk is attended by families, seniors, community and business leaders, as well as legislative representatives from federal, provincial and municipal governments. Canadian government officials attending this year included The Honourable Harjit Sajjan, MP, Minister of National Defense, The Honourable Shane Simpson, MLA, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and Sarah Kirby-Yung, Deputy Mayor of Vancouver. The 100-foot long S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon led thousands of participants on a three-kilometer route along the shores of False Creek.

Festivities ran from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and featured many family-friendly activities including game booths, a Kids Zone sponsored by RBC, and much more. Entertainment included performances by Marquis Lung Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Academy, KV Magic Club (Vincent Ma), Royvl Imaging Academy and Wu’s Taekwondo School.

“As an organization, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. gives so much to the communities they serve and the Walk with Dragon allows thousands to show their support and give back to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in appreciation of their efforts.  We cannot express the depth of our gratitude to every participant today for their contributions to another outstanding event” said Chris Chan, Terry Liu, and Jim O’Dea – Co-Chairs of the 2019 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon.

“We were thrilled to have this opportunity to host the Walk with the Dragon at Concord Pacific Place this year.  Concord Pacific has partnered with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for many years and when the idea was floated to move the Walk down to False Creek we quickly agreed and signed on as the Title Sponsor.  Seeing the turnout today and the amount raised for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. confirms we both made the right decision” said Grant Murray, Senior VP of Sales, Concord Pacific Developments.

Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, added: “It is amazing to think about the 34 year old history of the Walk and the thousands upon thousands of people who have participated.  The Walk with the Dragon has been an important multi-cultural community event since its inception, and will continue to be for many more years.  From all of us at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, thank you to everyone who participated and supported this event.  We are excited to see you again in 2020.”
