This project is a partnership of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society, Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC), British Columbia Housing Management Commission (BCHMC) and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society is responsible for developing and managing the residence.

Services

  • Hospitality services, which includes two meals a day, weekly housekeeping, weekly laundering of linens, social and recreational opportunities, and 24-hour emergency response system.
  • Personal care services, which includes assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, and medication management appropriate to a person’s needs.
  • Austin Harris Residence serves residents of all ethnicities. Staff speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
  • Each resident’s service is individualized to meet his/her needs. Through these service plans, we acknowledge the rights and responsibilities of the resident, the resident’s family, and the staff. The staff of Austin Harris are committed to ensure the best quality of life for all residents.

Facilities

  • It is a 50-unit affordable senior’s assisted living residence developed under the Independent Living BC (ILBC) Program.
  • Total size of the facility is about 88,000 square feet.
  • Total usable floor area is about 53,000 square feet on a 2-storey wood-frame building. Outdoor amenity space, including a landscaped garden, is about 20,000 square feet.
  • Average size of suites is about 510 square feet. Each unit is a self-contained one-bedroom suite with a bathroom, open kitchen and living room, and is suitable for single or double occupancy.
  • Other amenities include common dining room, library/internet, lounge, multi-purpose room, common laundry room, spa room, scooter room, and salon.

Eligibility

The Assisted Living service is for seniors and people living with physical disabilities. The senior must:

  • Be eligible to receive Home and Community Care services
  • Be able to direct their own care and make decisions
  • Be able to live independently but require help with daily activities
  • Be able to communicate and be understood by others
  • Be able to take direction in an emergency and use the emergency response system
  • Not behave in ways that place the safety of others at risk
  • Not been managing well at home with the available services

Fees

  • Individual residents pay 70% of after tax income, which covers:
    1. monthly rental accommodation
    2. hospitality services – meals, housekeeping, etc.
    3. personal care
  • Couples living together pay 70% of combined after tax income
  • Residents on income assistance pay a flat rate
  • Items not included: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies, and insurance
