New S.U.C.C.E.S.S. affordable housing and health project coming to East Vancouver

Vancouver, B.C. — East Vancouver is the site of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s latest affordable housing project, which will add 97 non-market homes to the neighbourhood, plus a healthcare treatment centre operated by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

Located at 1636 Clark Dr. and 1321-1395 East 1st Ave., the development will feature rental homes managed by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Affordable Housing Society. This initiative is specifically designed to support low- to middle-income residents, providing them with affordable housing options while connecting them to vital health services.

“S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is very proud to be a part of this community development, bringing new affordable housing options to East Vancouver,” said CEO Queenie Choo. “We are committed to helping more people in our province afford a place to call home.”

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has contributed more than 1,100 units to Metro Vancouver housing inventory since our non-profit social services agency first began operating housing in 2008, with more units in development.

The project includes a VCH withdrawal management centre with 51 detox beds, 20 sobering beds, and 20 transitional beds for individuals who are finishing treatment, providing essential support for people on the path to recovery.

“Everyone needs access to health care and safe, reliable housing,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. “This development will not only offer low- to middle- income people and families a home that’s within their budget but will also connect people to health- care treatment they need to get on a better path.”

The project is a partnership of BC Housing, Vancouver Coastal Health, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the City of Vancouver. The development is expected to complete in 2028.

“This new facility is going to help more people get the critical supports they need and is another step in our work to expand access to treatment and recovery services in B.C., so people can get the care they need, where and when they need it.” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Health.

The centre also includes space for Indigenous-led programs to foster community development and wellness.
