Community Partners Launch Social Media Campaign to Encourage Voting
Vancouver –Today, three non-partisan community organizations Civic Education Society, Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. jointly launched “Let’s Vote” social media campaign to encourage new Canadian citizens and long term residents of BC to vote on The May 9 provincial election.
The campaign released a series of videos on social media channels Facebook and Youtube. In the “Let’s vote” series, many community leaders share their stories about democracy, rights, election and voting. The World War II veterans Bing C. Wong and Tommy Wong talked about their experience on how they joined the Canadian army to fight in the war and how they fought against discrimination and eventually earned their citizenship rights. Hence, today every Canadian has the equal right to vote in the election. In addition to the veterans, other community leaders, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Chair Grace Wong and CEO Queenie Choo, former Vancouver Police Department Chief Jim Chu, Professor Emeritus at Simon Fraser University Jan Walls and the Pacific Canada Heritage Centre – Museum of Migration Society President Winnie Cheung, to name a few, speak in the video series.
