About the Position:

The Employment Counsellor works with a diverse range of clients in assisting them to securing and maintaining employment and community attachment.  

Reports to: Program Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides needs assessments and referrals through structured interview process to identify and prioritize issues that are preventing clients from achieving employment
  • Develops personalized plans that address clients’ needs and make use of employment services available
  • Monitors client progress by reviewing activities and learning outcomes on a communication medium 
  • Reviews, revises and updates action plans to enhance self-sufficiency and sustainable labour market attachment
  • Ensures clients achieve employment attachment in a timely manner
  • Determines client needs and eligibility, and administers support services where appropriate
  • Refers clients to other employment, settlement community, government, and/or language training services based on needs
  • Completes documentation and prepares financial reports for client support services
  • Captures client data to evidence qualitative and quantitative outcomes
  • Write client progress notes, follow-up reports, and success stories
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) considered an asset
  • Minimum of 2 years related employment services experience, specifically in connecting and developing professional relationships with employers and community partners
  • Experience in job development and recruitment
  • Experience working with clients with mental health needs and new immigrants 
  • Experience working with a female clientele is an asset
  • Experience in marketing and promotion (e. strategies, materials, and distribution)
  • Knowledge of employment barriers

Job Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Additional languages are considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office and web-based applications
  • Excellent attention to detailed and confidential information
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to establish and maintain counselling relationships with clients
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities facing cultural adjustment challenges

Other Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check Required
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to work at multiple offices and virtually/remotely as required
